Contemplative Psychotherapy

What is Contemplative Psychotherapy?

Contemplative psychotherapists can help clients connect to their own basic goodness because they have trained in it themselves.  Meditation and other mindfulness practices serve the counselor in understanding their own mind and are also utilized working with clients.  It is only in the present moment that one can experience their basic goodness and the focus is on the client’s direct experience in the moment. A contemplative therapist will explore with the client their present bodily sensations and emotions and practice cultivating awareness, along with states of compassion, lovingkindness, and curiosity towards their experiences.

What are the benefits of working with Contemplative Psychotherapy?

  • Developing mindfulness can help us reduce stress, increase self awareness, and improve how we perceive the world around us

  • It can help us come into relationship with our habitual patterns and emotions and shift patterns that do not serve us.

  • Anyone who has had past trauma. While it’s difficult to “get over” your past abuse, CP helps by accepting the past and opening themselves up for new experiences. Rather than live with the pain, you learn to let it go and find something better for yourself.

  • It can reduce stress and negative emotions related to chronic illness and disease.

  • It can help individuals remember their true nature and step into their authentic self.

  • General self-improvement.
